Impact Report 2026

"He’s flourished on a personal level, as well as at the sport. It’s really improved his life and ours because we’re delighted it makes him so happy. It’s the highlight of his week”

Moyra Innes on how her  autistic and non-verbal son, Blaine Innes of Fraserburgh, has “flourished” since taking up cricket.

Beyond Boundaries is…

a young Scottish Charity which funds programmes that use cricket, in any of its forms, to transform the lives of young, disadvantaged and underrepresented people in Scotland. We have improved the lives and opportunities for over 3000 people across Scotland.

What we do is

provide funding to clubs and other community organisations to run programmes and sessions using cricket to help transform lives.  Using our passion, networks and contacts to spread sport wider, with a focus on inclusivity, is what we do, but we need funds to make it happen. We want to help more people - regardless of race, gender, ability or age - to push beyond their boundaries

What we have done since our birth in 2016 is…

introduced several Initiatives  in Scotland reducing the number of girls who give up sport in the early teens, supporting more women to take up sport through cricket, and encouraging more female volunteers to take up coaching. The Beyond Boundaries T20 Cup, now in its 8th year, attracts women-only teams from all over Scotland, Our  Wee Bash tournament, , has so far attracted upwards of 500 players participating in social games played both indoors and outdoors throughout the year, giving an opportunity for players who may not have had the opportunity to get active to

“I knew some basic cricket but most of the team were learning everything from scratch, so Beyond Boundaries’ Wee Bash was a great chance for us to play real matches against other women and girls’ teams. When I agreed to join the team, it was to play cricket. But I realise it’s about so much more than developing our cricket skills. We are also building a women’s community with shared passion, commitment and friendship.” Divya Manickavelu from Falkirk

Our disability cricket initiatives have involved 9 clubs throughout Scotland setting up and running programmes for those with disabilities.  These include training sessions, games and table cricket, and we are aiming to grow this to a further 6 clubs in the coming year.

Finally, our HOWZAT Programme provides free, tailored cricket-based activities as a tool to transform young, disadvantaged people’s lives. It creates opportunities for participants, that they would not otherwise have, which maximises potential and increases their confidence and communication skills. Additionally, it strengthens communities and reduces stress, anxiety, loneliness and isolation.

Free cricket sessions are offered within each community and using local volunteers who understand different cultures and local issues the project breaks down social barriers to participation. The environment allows children to play, enjoy a social activity, make new friends and learn a sports skill within a safe place.

We Also ensure our children participants get opportunities to attend international matches and meet their heroes.  Here we see some of the Beyond Boundaries team at the recent Scotland vs Australia match in Edinburgh.

“Chloe Hughes’ mum, Claire, from Govanhill Glasgow, told how becoming involved in Beyond Boundaries’ HOWZAT programme has had a ‘huge impact on Chloe’s life’, following a difficult childhood.”
